Acne, also known as acne vulgaris, is a type of inflammatory skin disorder in which eruptions break out on the skin surface. It mostly affects the facial skin. Teenagers face this problem more often mainly because of the hormonal changes. It occurs due to bacterial infection after the tiny pores in the skin are blocked by dirt, dust and the excess oil produced by the oil glands. As a result, the hair follicles and the tissues around the clogged skin pores swell up. Acne should be controlled as early as possible in order to prevent any new outbreaks. Moreover, if left untreated, it can leave behind ugly scars on the face. There are many different ways of treating an acne. One of the most effective among them is apple cider vinegar acne treatment.

Apple Cider Vinegar

We all know, that vinegar is produced by fermentation of vegetables, fruits or grains. It is a process in which the food molecules are broken down with the help of yeast and bacteria. In the initial stage, the sugar present in the food gets converted into alcohol, and later on, the fermentation of alcohol leads to formation of vinegar. Apple cider vinegar or ACV is different from the distilled vinegars that are found in the grocery stores. It is prepared by natural fermentation of crushed organic apples in wooden barrels. Due to its natural processing, apple cider vinegar contains more enzymes and minerals than any other vinegar. It is rich in antioxidants like vitamin A, Vitamin C, beta carotene, three different forms of vitamin B, bioflavonoids, etc. It also contains useful minerals like calcium, magnesium, potassium, phosphorus, copper, iron, etc. All these ingredients enable it to fight off the acne causing bacteria and reduce the skin inflammation.

The best part of using ACV for acne treatment is that it not only eliminates the infection but also prevents its recurrence. To achieve the best results, acne sufferers should use it both externally as well as externally.

External Uses

Before applying apple cider vinegar directly on the acne, it is recommended that you dilute it with water. Mix 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar in one ounce of water and then apply it on the acne with the help of a cotton pad. Leave it untouched for about 10 minutes. Repeat it a number of times throughout the day. Next day, you will find that the inflammation has gone down and the acne has dried out too. If the acne problem is severe, you can leave the solution on it overnight. Those who have acne prone skin should use it as a skin toner. For this, fill up the basin with warm water and pour half cup of apple cider vinegar into it, and splash this solution on your face. It should be done twice a day after washing the face with regular facial cleanser. It works like an astringent. It will disinfect the skin and kill the bacteria present on its surface. It will also remove the excess oil from the skin and maintain the normal pH balance of the skin.

As a Health Tonic

When you are using it as a health tonic, select a good quality apple cider vinegar. Apple cider vinegar is quite strong and should be diluted before you take it as a drink. The usual proportion is 2 tablespoons of ACV in one cup of water. Add some honey to make its taste slightly better. If you wish to neutralize the acid in this mixture, put ¼ teaspoon of baking soda into it. Take this drink three times everyday. Instead of plain water, you can put 2 tablespoons of ACV into a cup of strong green tea and drink it. If this tea is taken twice, one cup in the morning and one cup before going to bed, it works wonders in preventing acne. After the intake of apple cider vinegar, make sure you rinse your mouth thoroughly. Otherwise, the acid content of the vinegar may cause harm to the teeth enamel.

Apple cider vinegar acne treatment is a safe option for all types of skin. The response of the skin towards the treatment may vary from one individual to the other. Most people have found that it shows significant positive results within 2 or 3 weeks.
